The Third Ultrasound

Third ultrasound on January 29th: Dana was 11 weeks, 1 day pregnant. Again, the development from two weeks ago was a miracle. We were speechless at how much the baby had progressed. This was the first ultrasound when he (because we’re almost certain it’s a boy, I’m going to refer to the baby as a boy unless proven otherwise) began resembling a baby rather than a blob like at the first ultrasound or an alien like at the second ultrasound. Although in the pictures it’s hard to tell, at this ultrasound we could see fingers, toes, ribs, jaw, nose, ears, eye sockets, two halves of the brain, and the four chambers of the heart. The doctor said at this point the baby’s movements are deliberate. He also said that we have a good active baby. As the doctor was showing us his jaw, he swallowed twice! Our baby measured 47.5 mm and the heartbeat was at 188 beats per minute. If we went off this measurement, he would be expected on August 16th because he measured three days ahead of schedule.
