We had our first official visit with our obstetrician on Thursday, and we couldn't be more excited about him. He spent almost two hours with us, answering questions and talking to us about what our next steps will be. We didn't have an ultrasound this time, but we heard the baby's heartbeat through a doppler device -- 169 beats per minute. What a reassuring sound!
Our next appointment will be next Thursday, Feb. 12, for a first trimester screening. Even though we are technically in the second trimester now, the doctor performs a test called a Neuchal Translucency Scan to detect the risk of Down's Syndrome or other birth defects. We'll have another ultrasound (yay!) and a blood test.
To our surprise, our doctor said that there is a slight chance that we'll be able to see the sex of the baby next week!! It's still a little early, but we're keeping our fingers crossed. We would love for all of you to enter a guess in the baby poll that Brian set up (see the info in the green box on the right) before we find out about the sex so we can see if the boy-guessers or the girl-guessers are correct!

ReplyDeleteSorry you haven't had your nuchal screen yet I see, but the 11 week shots look boyish to me! :D
